Teaching Philosophy

I encourage students to express their ideas and develop their own artistic styles. Art is a way to communicate and positively impact the world. I value every opinion and stress the importance of using their voices in critiques and artwork.

I design projects that reflect students’ interests, backgrounds, and beliefs, so everyone can express themselves. I encourage critical thinking and show how art shapes culture and empowers voices.

Integrating art into the classroom is essential. Art connects with other subjects and helps students understand complex ideas across disciplines.

My curriculum uses a variety of media, techniques, and technologies to keep students engaged. My classroom is a judgment-free zone where students can take risks and experiment in their art. I encourage my students to work collaboratively and to help each other out when needed.

The art room is an open community where everyone can express themselves and be accepted. This environment fosters creativity, discovery, and positive change.

Motivation:

I design lessons that address individual needs and promote diverse perspectives. My objective is for students to create art that reflects their environment and expresses their passions. I view art as a catalyst for social change and personal reflection. By introducing students to art history, contemporary issues, and a range of media, I aim to foster meaningful artistic exploration. My classroom environment supports learning through experimentation. I encourage students to integrate their multicultural backgrounds and interests, fostering connections between art and core subjects such as English, mathematics, and science. Ultimately, my goal is to sustain student motivation throughout their artistic journey.

Management:

My classroom management philosophy is designed to foster a positive and safe learning environment. I aim to implement effective strategies that maintain order while promoting students’ creative development.

Establishing Clear Rules and Principles.

At the beginning of the academic year, I will establish clear rules and principles to ensure a safe environment for all students. Students, their parents, and I will sign a contract acknowledging these expectations. The rules will be concise, and the principles will support a healthy classroom culture. I will limit the number of rules to those necessary for maintaining order.

Addressing Student Behavior:

When a student exhibits inappropriate behavior, I will first issue a warning that encourages self-reflection. If the behavior continues, the student will be required to write an explanation of the misconduct and propose strategies for improvement. Ongoing issues will result in parental contact, and repeated infractions will lead to a referral to the principal. I am committed to following each step to ensure students have opportunities to correct their actions.

Promoting Student Organization and Productivity.

To support student organization and focus, I will require students to store unrelated materials in designated cubbies near the classroom entrance. A clearly posted schedule on the board will outline daily tasks and expectations.

Ensuring Teacher Availability:

I will communicate my availability to students so they can seek assistance as needed. If students require support outside of these hours, I will make every effort to accommodate their needs.

Providing Clear Instructions

I will deliver clear instructions through multiple methods to address diverse learning styles. Instructions will be provided in written, verbal, and demonstrated formats, and further explained in small groups when necessary.
